This was the very first proper thing I created myself. I had trouble finding anything similar, where students could practise their editing skills. We teach writing by text type at my school and I often find we don’t plan to teach specific writing skills. It can be easy to gloss over core writing skills when you’re focusing on text type or through a whole language approach. I have used these sheets in a variety of different ways. The most effective way was giving students 2 or 3 lines (of sentences with mistakes) as a quick tune into a writing lesson. They only take 5 to 10 minutes for students to complete, and then the discussion afterwards is INVALUABLE! For example… Students love completing the strips, especially as a quick tune in activity, as they almost always find success and develop confidence spotting these errors – without taking it personally!
